If a peaceful and relaxing weekend getaway is what you’re looking for, Camano Island in the Puget Sound may be the answer. With its quaint B&B’s and waterfront cottages, it’s easy to slip into island life and forget all about the hectic day-to-day happenings of the rest of the world. Nestled between Whidbey Island and the mainland, Camano Island can be reached by heading west through Stanwood on Hwy 532 – it’s one of a few islands in the Sound that you can actually drive to.

There are also several beaches and campgrounds on the island, including Camano Island State Park which offers five rental cabins in addition to 88 tent spaces. This 134-acre park provides sweeping views of the surrounding mountains and offers opportunities for shellfish harvesting. Cama Beach State Park offers visitors a chance to step back in time to a 1930s-era Puget Sound fishing resort complete with waterfront cedar cabins and bungalows. While at Cama Beach, you can explore the expansive shoreline, gaze at beautiful sunsets, view an array of wildlife, and hike or bike the area’s 15 miles of trails.
