With over seven miles of wilderness trails and 534 acres of forests and meadows, Discovery Park is the perfect place to get away from it all - and it's right here in the city! Enjoy a picnic lunch on the bluff overlooking the Sound, spend the afternoon basking in the sun on a sandy beach, take a stroll down a wooded path - the choice is yours. Whether you come to relax or to play, Discovery Park offers something for everyone.

The south beach at Discovery Park is a popular destination for local beachgoers, with its wide, sandy beach and amazing views of the Sound. On a clear day, you can see Mount Rainier, and if you're really lucky you might even see a seahawk diving into the cool waters to catch a fresh fish for dinner.

To visit the south beach and/or the lighthouse, your best bet is to stop in first at the Visitor Center, where they can direct you to the walking trails that lead down to the beach and lighthouse. The trip back up the bluff from the lighthouse can be a bit strenuous, so if you're not in decent physical shape, or you've got small kids in tow, there's a shuttle bus that will take you down to the lighthouse from the Visitor Center. You can also get a parking permit to drive down and park at the lighthouse if you have a handicapped person or small children in your party.
