Volunteer Park
This 48-acre park in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle is a true gem in the Emerald City. Featuring the historic Volunteer Park Conservatory with a collection of tropical and subtropical plant life in its five display houses, a 1906 water tower with observation deck offering views over the surrounding neighborhoods and beyond, the dramatic Art Deco building of the Seattle Asian Art Museum, and a wading pool and koi ponds open during the summer months, it is truly a wonderful place to get away right within the city limits. Beautifully landscaped grounds also include an extensive dahlia garden in season, and large lawns and picnic areas to spread out for sports and family outings on warm summer days. The park also features free concerts in July and August – more information about these as well as the park in general can be found at the Volunteer Park Trust website.
